New 15 Block Memory Card for PS1 Playstation 1MB Review

New 15 Block Memory Card for PS1 Playstation 1MB

I got this in the mail today, opened it up, and popped it into my PS2 Slim while it was running the PS1 system. I wanted to use it to save a file on Rayman, but when asked if I wanted to format the memory card in-game, clicking “yes” would only result in a small pause and then the cursor automatically moving to “no.”

I looked up whether there was any other way to format a PS1 memory card on a PS2 system, and so I tried formatting it via the browser you can enter when the console is reset and the disc cover is open, but it doesn’t register that a memory card is inside the system at all. Putting in a PS2 memory card, however, has no problems, and so I can only be led to believe that it is a problem with the new memory card itself.

Further digging into the matter revealed that third-party memory cards and those labeled for “PS1″ do not work on the PS2 Slim. Instead, you’ll need to get a PSX memory card, one of the older versions, because the other ones don’t work.

If you’re looking to play a PS1 game on your PS2 Slim, don’t get this memory card and make the same mistake I did. If you want to save a PS1 game file, make sure to pick an official Sony memory card. Do your homework to check exactly what kind you’ll need, though, because apparently some versions of the Sony memory cards don’t work on the Slim either.

This doesn’t work on the PS2 Slim. If you’re looking for a PS1 memory card to save your files and are planning to use a PS2 Slim to play them, don’t get this.
